Here I am again over a year later with my new art of Despicable Me bird AU (Rise Of Gru in particular, of course). Nefario still looks like a literal cockatiel to me, though I decided to change the species for small Gru, for something that still fits him but is actually smaller than cockatiel in real life. My choice here was the Blue Gray Gnutcatcher. Tiny frowning bird.

And the new brushes! Oh yeah I found absolutely brilliant colored pencil brushes for Procreate and I am having fun with them.

Re: whether or not Miles actually has the real Mona Lisa: while it being the real thing does provide greater commentary I propose to you that the painting being fake unlocks the potential for a short film about the horrified and pissed off Louvre employees who can’t believe they’ve been asked to turn over The Mona Lisa to this guy scrambling to put together a fake and hide the real one. In terms of the commentary, you can even have your cake and eat it too, if the French government agrees to loan it out bc billionaire corruption and so it’s the average museum employees lying through their teeth to the government and risking felony offenses to protect the art.

My proposed cast of characters:

1. The elderly curator who’s forgotten more about da Vinci and renaissance art than most people learn in a lifetime, was mentored by a dude who smuggled art out of France to hide it from the Nazis and the second he sees the request from miles is like “M. Laurent did not get shot in the leg by a Nazi shithead for me to simply hand over Joconde to this idiot, he would crawl out of his grave and murder me himself and he would be right to do so”

2. The art conservation and repair expert who has worked on the Mona Lisa personally for the past decade, knows her better than just about anyone else in the world, one of probably like three people alive who’s allowed to actually touch her, comes across as high strung and business like but has the deepest and most genuine love for the art pieces and is fiercely dedicated above all else to the idea that art belongs to EVERYBODY, that her job is not the preservation of art for art’s sake but the preservation of art for future generations to see and fall in love with just like she did

3. The 18-year-old who was supposed to be here on an internship except The Covids Happened and now they’re in a bizarre employment limbo where they are sort of still interning but the actual job is not at all what it was supposed to be. Enthusiastically anarchic and socialist and almost concerningly Down For Crime

Together they have to team up for a mini heist-like adventure to convince Miles Bron and the French government that they are handing over the real Mona Lisa while engaging in shenanigans to keep the real thing safe and hidden

Thy’lek Shran (Star Trek Enterprise)

‪Pros: Strong sense of justice, good at what he does, sexy, energetic. He’ll fight for what’s right and he’ll protect you with his life. He has a soft side and he’s not afraid to show it.‬

Cons: Hotheaded, a bit rash.

Anton Mordrid (Doctor Mordrid)

Pros: Fights evil, lives a quiet life. Financially stable. Has a romantic streak. Is an all around sweet guy who will bring you breakfast in bed and read to you. He teaches you wizardry.

Cons: Absolutely tragic sense of style.

Chaz (Dead Man Walking)

Pros: Is objectively very cute. He’d risk his life for yours without question. He works past his fear to achieve his goals. No doubt a snuggler big on showing affection.

Cons: Is a bit whiney, possibly has the plague. Tragic taste in nicknames.

Crawford Tillinghast (From Beyond)

Pros: Brilliant scientist and inventor. Submissive and sweet. Romance with him would be chaste and old fashioned. He’d do his best to keep you safe. Cute little guy in a big sweater.

Cons: Sexually repressed. A bad luck magnet. Despite his best efforts, trouble finds him.

Andrew Paris (Phantom Empire)

Pros: Strong sex appeal. Wears the tightest pants in existence. He wouldn’t object to spontaneous adventures. A relationship with him would be impulsive and quirky.

Cons: Any girl who flirts with him is a legit threat. He’s a slutty, wanton little strumpet.

Bill Knight (Felony)

Pros: Handsome, charismatic crime fighter. Eager to hop in bed with you if you show a smidgeon of kindness toward him. He whimpers very prettily. He’s quick and agile.

Cons: He is a total hazard. You’re in the line of fire if you hang with him. He may break into your house. He’s flown through an absurd number of windows.

D-Day (Fortress)

Pros: Adorable, good with machines. There’s kindness in him. He will risk his life for his friends. A relationship with him would consist of tentative, shy, and guarded advances.

Cons: He is easily led into dangerous situations. He needs a dentist. Hes in jail.

Weyoun (Star Trek Deep Space 9)

Pros: Ethereal. Obscenely sexy. Knows what he wants and how to get it. If he chooses to be devoted to you, he’ll be loyal unto death. Loves to have fun, and loves to tease. Kinky.

Cons: Religious nut. Can’t appreciate art, food, and many simple pleasures. Manipulative.

John Reilly (Castle Freak)

Pros: Handsome DILF. He wants to improve his life. Repentant of his sins, affectionate.

Cons: Touch starved, desperate, directionless, alcoholic, and when he falls off the wagon he falls all the way off. He also comes from a family of lunatics so there’s that.

James Wilkins (Hunter S07E13)

Pros: Sensual as fuck. Life with him would be a roller coaster ride of sex and danger. Tattoos, leather, fast cars, and he can’t keep his hands off you.

Cons: He’s a thief and a murderer. He’s attracted to women more dangerous than he is.

Milton Dammers (The Frighteners)

Pros: Once upon a time he was probably a sweet guy. He wants to rid the world of evil so desperately that he’s sacrificed his own sanity to do it.

Cons: He’s a broken man. He’s completely lost his grip on reality. He’s scarred, scared, troubled, and no you can’t fix him.

Herbert West (Reanimator)

Pros: Definitely handsome. On some level he wants to do something great for humankind. He’s capable of affection in his own bizzare way. Life with him would certainly never be dull. Despite his abrasiveness he’s got an undeniable magnetism.

Cons: Morals? Never heard of ‘em. Healthy boundaries are a non starter. His definition of intimacy likely won’t be aligned with yours. He will latch onto you like the codependent, murderous, evil little gremlin he is until one or both of you is dead or in jail.

Backstory: He grew up with police officer parents who had interests in car mechanics, so he naturally picked up the same hobbies. Eventually started making weapons and studying art of weaponry as well as hopology. His family moved to Seoultham when he was a young teenager, where his parents got killed. Yunho had to resort to crime and smuggling to survive. He hated himself for committing crime (out of love for his deceased parents), hence he adopted the alias Huntsman (later renamed as Hans when he met the others) to gatecrash dangerous weapon dealings he hears of. Later on, he met Hongjoong through the New World weapons black market and joined him after hearing about Birds of Prey.

Backstory: An alien warrior from planet Aurora who designed high tech weaponry from the planet's raw materials. His first encounter with a human was when he met Yunho, who was on a smuggling mission to Aurora. San assumed that Yunho was another greed-filled thief who came to his home planet to steal, but became friends with him when he found out they had a shared interest in weapons design. He was intrigued by Yunho's stories of life on Earth and decided to follow him back.

Choi Jongho {Nightingale}

Backstory: An only child living in a small town with his parents, he was born with a mutated voice box that allowed him to physically manifest soundwaves with his voice. He accidentally hurt his father with it when he was a kid, and started to see it as a curse for the majority of his life and didn't speak much out of fear of causing harm to others. At 18, he moved away from his parents to live in Seoultham to lay low. He eventually heard from word of mouth about Mingi's expertise in tech, and went to him for help in building soundwave-muting technology. Mingi did built a device for him, but also encouraged him to embrace his ability and got him to join the Birds of Prey.

>Came off as uptight to the other members at first, but Mingi brought out his real fun-loving and laid back personality

Jung Wooyoung {Kitty}

[23 years old]

(based on Selina Kyle, Catwoman)

Backstory: Grew up in Seoultham and got by with his good looks and street smarts. At 17, he started to date a rich young man who would often abuse and berate him. Soon after, Wooyoung was kicked out of his house by his parents who found him disgraceful, and was stuck with his then-boyfriend who eventually broke up with him and left him alone and penniless. Wooyoung took revenge by breaking into his now ex's penthouse and stealing all his expensive possessions, which was when he developed a knack for stealing. He was living off stolen goods when he met San (who had just arrived on earth) and befriended him. San, being the sweetheart he is, invited Wooyoung to join the Birds of Prey, which Wooyoung, albeit with some hesitation, obliged to.

>Lives with Jongho in their suite (rent is paid off mostly by Wooyoung's salary and "souvenirs" from his occasional heists on local robbers)

-due to how often he travels, he rarely gets to come back to visit his sister. And since him and his partners work with Wooyoung, reader always sees them doing admin work together when she comes to see him.

-Taehyun wasn't home when their parents died, he had been at a party, making him feel guilty for the death of them. Because of it, he promised to take care of his sister as much as he could, even if it meant being away most of the time to work and pay for bills

Seo Changbin (local police officer)

[27 years old]

-Yeonjun and Wooyoung's good friend

-has taken a liking to Taehyun and is always chatting him up when Taehyun visits with Yeonjun and Soobin

-a loud mouth, but he means well

-occasionally slips up and tells Wooyoung details on his recent cases

-himbo energy

Choi Seungcheol (local police detective)

[28 years old]

-the most renowned detective in Seoultham

-his father was also a detective but he died in the line of work by one of Joker's henchmen

-he started off at a younger age and became an unstoppable force in his work

-He's got plenty of loyal companions and he doesn't mind bending the rules to his favor if it means catching the perp he's chasing

-he doesn't particularly see his actions as morally wrong or that he might be abusing his title. What matters to him at the end is putting the person behind bars permanently

-Has a thing against vigilantes, even if they have truces with the police force (ahem ahem mingi)

Yoo Jeongyeon (reader's good friend)

[20 years old]

-attends Ok-ja Central college, law degree.

-Her and Nayeon share an apartment together in a more protected and enriched part of the city 

-which leads to them asking reader to move in with them, because they're worried for her wellbeing at Halazia apartments

-the more chill of the three friends. she's definitely the mom of the group

-she's always had the best grades, separating her future career and her personal life in the process

-her parents both work as lawyers, so it was in her nature to follow their footsteps. She doesn't feel the pressure to, though

-both her parents and younger brother live in another city

-chose seoultham as it was an unconventional place for her to make her mark, seeing as there was so much crime. 

-her father and Nayeon's father were friends, and due to that they became roommates and then close friends

Im Nayeon (reader's good friend)

[21 years old]

-attends Ok-ja Central college, visual arts degree

-Her eldest sister was a photographer before she passed, which left Nayeon with their sickly mother at the time. She had to take care of both of them for a while

-her mother proceeded to remarry a rich man after her sickness had gone away, said rich man became Nayeon's father

-he encouraged nayeon and promised to take care of her expenses. So then, when she graduated, she immediately applied for Ok-ja Central college at 18

-her step-father moved her into the luxury apartments, making sure she was in a safe part of seoultham

-conventionally enough her step-father also knew Jeongyeon's father, which ended up with them both becoming roommates. That led to them becoming close friends

-Her and Jeongyeon met reader in the college's dining hall when she stepped in between an argument to grab her silverware, completely disregarding the fighting men in favor of eating. They quickly took to befriending her

Kim Chungha/Annie

[28 years old]

-daughter of Halazia Apartment’s Landlady, and helps out a lot with managing the place

-works as a dance instructor 

-lesbian ("OMG GIRL KISSER CHUNGHA 😍😍" -leslie and calli)

-interested in Seonghwa's plants and occasionally visits him at the apartment to ask about his collection

-her and her mother are the only women Seonghwa is comfortable with (besides reader)

-she is SUPER lenient with the people in the building. How much trouble could two college kids cause?

-Chungha is not at all surprised by the amount of friends Mingi keeps up at his apartment, as long as they're not causing too big of a ruckus and trashing the place

-when her mother occasionally comes to visit the apartments, she makes sure to tidy up, as she does leave the place messy due to her packed schedule

Choi Soobin (Taehyun’s close friend)

[24 years old]

-Soobin and the rest of Taehyun's close friends had been around since childhood, having grown up with the Kang siblings.

-Soobin sees reader as if she's his own sibling.

-reader had a crush on him when they were younger 

-works as a historian, partners with Taehyun and Yeonjun a lot for projects and is hence always travelling with them

Choi Beomgyu (Taehyun's close friend)

[24 years old]

-works as an actuary 

-super laid back and fun

-often plays online games with reader even though they live in different cities

-crashes at reader's place whenever he visits (which is often, especially with the amount of travelling he can afford on his salary)

Choi Yeonjun (Taehyun's close friend)

-works as a geologist, partners with Taehyun and Soobin and travels a lot with them for projects

-the one who originally got Taehyun a partnership with Visage of History Museum (and subsequently with Wooyoung)

-popular fashion designer in a bigger city

-founder of Huekai fashion brand (Hongjoong is a fan of him)

-he had a thing for reader when they were younger. And he still happens to have a small innocent child-like crush on her

A presidential signing bonanza

Vladimir Putin signed into law on Thursday more than 50 laws on Thursday, including several new prohibitions and expansions of the state’s repressive powers. Thanks to the president's approval, these eight pieces of legislation are now set to become the law of the land.

Jailing soldiers (without court orders) for using smartphones: Unit commanders now have the authority to lock up their soldiers for up to 10 days (or 15 days for repeat offenses) if they catch them using banned personal gadgets, such as smartphones. This act previously required transporting the suspects to a garrison court for a formal ruling.

An expanded definition of ‘undesirability’: The authorities can now designate any organization in Russia as “undesirable” if foreign state entities played any role in the organization’s foundation or have even participated in its operations. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the law is necessary to close a “loophole” that prohibited the government from designating local, Russian organizations, not just foreign groups.

No more selling energy drinks to kids: Effective March 2025, Russian vendors are prohibited from selling non-alcoholic tonic drinks, including energy drinks, to minors. The new restriction is intended as a public health measure.

Legalized cryptocurrency mining: Russia will introduce a special registry to issue permits for individuals and legal entities to “mine” cryptocurrency — the electricity-demanding process of using computer power to solve the complex mathematical problems needed to validate and secure transactions on a blockchain, earning digital currency as a reward. In mid-July, Putin expressed concerns about falling behind in cryptocurrency regulations. The new legislation also reserves some regional authorities’ right to ban crypto-mining where energy shortages are a concern.

The Dude can no longer abide: Effective September 1, 2025, “propagating drug use in art and literature” without warnings will be punishable by steep fines. The new restrictions exempt all works released before August 1, 1990, and content “where drugs are an integral part of the artistic concept justified by the genre.” The new censorship also does not apply to “materials related to investigative activities, scientific, educational, medical, or pharmaceutical publications.”

More deportation powers for the police: Internal Affairs Ministry officials will now have the authority to expel foreigners from the country without court oversight for certain misdemeanors. The list of administrative offenses includes illegal drug use, the public consumption of alcohol, and disseminating so-called “gay propaganda” (though officers must “directly witness signs of violations” in this last case). Deported foreigners will also be added to a registry that bans them from registering businesses in Russia, getting married, buying and registering property, opening bank accounts, and obtaining or renewing a driver’s license. 

‘Trash-streams’ banned: In Russia, “trash streams” usually feature bloggers abusing drugs and alcohol or performing humiliating or violent acts in return for donations from viewers. The new law prohibits the distribution of “trash stream” content, and crimes committed during these broadcasts can be prosecuted as aggravated offenses under 10 different felony statutes. Convicted “trash streamers” will face steep fines and the possible confiscation of their electronic equipment.

Naturalized citizenship revoked for refusing military registration: The Internal Affairs Ministry will now be required to provide records about all men approved for receiving Russian citizenship. Lawmakers who sponsored the bill said the new condition for maintaining naturalized citizenship is needed to address “widespread public outrage” against immigrants who get a passport and then evade military duty.
